Sparkling sugar glitter
It’s easy to make your own edible glitter at home! The darker the colour, the more sparkly the glitter, so don’t be afraid to experiment.
Follow these steps: Pour approx. 100 g / 3½ oz granulated sugar into a glass jar with a lid, add a few drops of food colouring (in any colour you like), screw on the lid and shake as hard as you can until all the sugar is the same colour.
Add more drops of food colouring and shake again until the sugar is the colour you want. Make sure the sugar is not too wet from the food colouring before you put it in the oven or the liquid may begin to boil.
Spread the sugar on a baking tray covered with baking paper and dry it in the oven at 175 C/350 F/Gas Mark 4 for approx. 7–9 minutes. Be vigilant so the sugar doesn’t melt. If it lumps together when you take it out of the oven, crumble it with your fingers or a spoon.
